Apartment Living
New Perspectives is not contained to one building--we believe in being a part of the community around us! Each of our clients is set up to live in a nearby apartment, either through our contracts or independently. We have our clients start with the end goal in mind.

✺
Transportation
Being part of a community means learning how to navigate the city's transportation services. Our mentors at New Perspectives assist clients in learning to navigate the bus and train systems in Utah, as well as practicing time management when needing to walk somewhere. All New Perspectives buildings, including the Kreative Space, are within a 15 min walking distance.

✺
Hygiene
Clients at New Perspectives work with the Lead Wellness Coach to practice hygiene skills. Students may attend classes or clubs to learn about hygiene and beauty practices. All staff are trained to work with students on maintaining good hygiene, or returning home to refresh hygiene, and are aware it can be a sensitive topic. Hygiene is addressed as a skill to learn, just as other skills are presented.

✺
Grocery Shopping
Clients work with the Lead Wellness Coach to create a nutritional and healthy plan for meals and groceries. Mentors assist clients in their grocery shopping, first by getting to stores through public transportation, and then by completing the shopping. Mentor help is also available for organization of new groceries in the apartment.

✺
Cooking
Clients work with the Lead Wellness Coach to make a nutritional and healthy meal plan that includes meals that the client can make for themselves. The options for meals will expand as clients learn to cook in classes, clubs, and with mentors. Mentors also assist on weekends with meal prepping, so food is available every day of the week.

✺
Money Management
New Perspectives provides both group finance classes and 1:1 sessions with a financial mentor. Clients will learn about money management, paying bills, budgeting, maintaining an apartment, and having saving. As clients grasp the base skills of financial management, they will move onto more advanced topics.

✺
Cleaning & Basic Maintenance
As part of living in an apartment, clients will be taught how to clean consistently to maintain an apartment. Weekly cleaning checks are required. Clients are also taught how to handle basic maintenance for an apartment, so they can continue to work on their self-reliance skills.
-
✺
Relationships
New Perspectives provides a Relationships class for students looking to build skills beyond their daily interactions. The class covers consent in both friendships and romantic relationships, discusses how to be safe online, and provides examples of what healthy dating looks like. Topics for the class shift according to student need.

Residential Mentors
Clients living in the Apartments contracted by New Perspectives have the opportunity to live with a residential mentor. These mentors live with one or more clients as a roommate to provide an example of what a healthy, self-reliant young adult life can look like. They are able to provide support with things like cooking, cleaning, and more.
What do the apartments look like?
Let’s get into the details.
“Neurodiversity” is the term for the natural diversity in human brains—everyone’s brain is different!
“Neurodivergence” or “Neurodivergent” is used to explain that someone's brain processes, learns, and/or behaves differently from what is considered "typical".
Some conditions commonly considered neurodivergent include: Autism, Asperger’s, ADHD, and dyslexia.
What does that mean for New Perspectives?
Not everyone agrees on exactly which diagnoses do or do not fall under the umbrella of neurodivergence. We take a broad approach in defining neurodivergence.
We work with clients with Autism, Asperger’s (high-functioning autism), ADHD, and dyslexia, as well as many less commonly associated diagnoses. We work with anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, learning differences, non-verbal Autism, and more.
We specialize in working with clients on the intersection of trauma and neurodiversity, as well as the intersection of autism and OCD.
